The Great Commission
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:16-20 New International Version (NIV)-
The mission of the Missions Ministry in Living Hope Methodist Church is to fulfill The Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ as a church together. We want to demonstrate God’s love to others through our works of service and share the gospel message with those who have ears to hear. We also want to reach out to the surrounding nations and beyond to spread the gospel of Christ to them and to bless the nations. Doing missions will open the eyes of many to the unbelieving, poor, sick and the neglected in the region around us. Often enough, we tend to take for granted the security, wealth, accessibility and hope in Jesus Christ that we have here as privileged Singaporean Christians, hence all of us are to be ambassadors of God’s love to these people.
Ways you can serve:
- Serve by doing the missions itself
If you feel an urge in your heart to serve in this manner, do pray about it and ask God for his directions in whether this is truly your calling. Also, feel free to approach the pastors or leaders in church to seek Godly counsel.
- Serve by using your gifts
Use your God-given gifts, whether it is being an encourager, a good listening ear, or being thoughtful, to support the missionaries and their families. A small act of kindness or a thoughtful gesture can go a long way.
- Serve by being a good steward
If you feel that you have been richly blessed by God and want to in turn use your finances to help extend the love of Christ to others, you can choose to steward your finances towards supporting the Missions Ministry in church / missions organisations. This will allow missions work to reach more and more people and allow missionaries/ organisations to have more resources to help them.
- Serve by praying for those involved
Even if you are unable to do any of these, you are still important! You can support this ministry of God by praying and interceding for those involved directly and indirectly.
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.’’ -Colossians 4:2 New International Version (NIV)-
If you would like to serve in any of the above, please email Mr William Stacken at email@example.com.
